Origin: Persian

Zarina comes from the Persian zar, 'gold,' with a feminine ending — the same zar that supplies half of the Kazakh name Aizere. It is also, notably, the name ancient Greek sources give to a legendary Saka warrior queen said to have ruled in Central Asia, making it one of the oldest attested names in the region.
