Female

Layla

Meaning: night

Origin: Arabic

Layla comes from the Arabic layl, 'night.' Its fame rests largely on Layla and Majnun, the classical Arabic and Persian tale of Qays's obsessive, doomed love for Layla — one of the most retold romances in the Islamic world, echoed centuries later in Eric Clapton's 1970 song of the same name.
