Koblandy

Meaning: lion-like

Origin: Kypchak

Koblandy, also rendered Qobylan, is generally connected to an archaic Turkic word for a great predatory cat, used in epic poetry to praise ferocity in battle. It's the name of the title hero of Kobylandy Batyr, one of the major Kazakh heroic epics, believed to reflect a real 14th- or 15th-century warrior later folded into legend.
