Kerey
Meaning: uncertain
Origin: Kypchak
Kerey is likely connected to Kereit, a major Mongol-era Turkic-Mongolic tribal confederation recorded in the Secret History of the Mongols, though the word's deeper meaning is unsettled. As Kerey Khan, it belongs to one of the two founders of the Kazakh Khanate in 1465 — alongside Zhanibek Khan — and it remains the name of one of the constituent tribes of the Middle Zhuz.
