Bogenbay is the name of an 18th-century Kazakh military commander, Bogenbay Batyr, one of the most celebrated leaders of Kazakh resistance during the Kazakh–Dzungar Wars. As with many historical batyr names, its component parts aren't transparently traceable to plain modern words; its meaning today is inseparable from the man himself.
